Johnny L Pettegrew

Johnny L. Pettegrew has been the Program Manager of the Entertainment Technology program at Florida State College in Jacksonville since 1993.  He was hired at FSCJ to assist in the final design and oversee the construction of the Nathan H. Wilson, Center for the Arts while developing the curriculum for an AS degree in Entertainment Technology. He went to FSCJ after 10 years at Jacksonville University, including 4 years as Chairman of the Theatre Arts Department.  His early theatre training included attending Kansas State University for two years before leaving to take a position as Assistant Technical Director for a repertory touring theatre company.  His year “on the road” took him to Fredonia New York where two years later he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York in Fredonia NY (1975).  He also holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Production Design from Ohio University (1977).  He has been a designer and educator for over 35 years and has designed professionally for both resident and touring companies in Kansas, Pennsylvania, Idaho, Michigan, New York and Florida.  After successfully overseeing the completion of the Wilson Center (opening in 1997), he has been the lead consultant on numerous projects throughout the state of Florida.  Projects have been many and varied from the construction of a new “Black Box” theatre at Harrison School of the Arts, in Lakeland FL to a small Proscenium theatre for Amelia Community Theatre, on Amelia Island, and the conversion of a school cafeteria into a multi-function performance venue for Brentwood Elementary School, an Arts Magnet Elementary School in Jacksonville. He has served 3 terms as Vice President of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (I.A.T.S.E.) Local 115 in Jacksonville, and is still the chairman of the Union’s Education Committee.  He was 2006 recipient of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region IV Design Fellowship in Lighting Design
