We’ve officially begun early design work on the new Dance Theater at Manatee School for the Arts, working with Hall Darling Design Studio.
This is always one of the most important phases of a project.
Before anything gets locked in, we’re focused on a few key questions:
What atmosphere should the room have for dance?
What is the ideal distance between the audience and the performers?
How much flexibility is truly required for the program?
A dance theater differs from a conventional auditorium. It emphasizes clarity of movement, intimacy, and connection, making the room's geometry and seating arrangement highly important.
Simultaneously, we are planning for infrastructure:
Lighting positions that properly support the body
Flexible and straightforward rigging systems
The goal isn’t to overbuild—it’s to get the fundamentals right.
This phase involves significant collaboration. We are partnering closely with the architects and the school to make sure the space accurately represents its intended purpose.
Getting this part right sets the foundation for a space that will serve students for decades.
More to come as the design develops.
